Process

Virginia Tech’s Solitude, the “home place of the university,” built c. 1801-1859, is located in a landscaped park adjoining the Drill Field at the heart of the campus. The project entailed rehabilitating the landmarked house according to the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for Rehabilitation, for use as office, classroom, and exhibition space for the University’s Appalachian Studies Center.
