2025 Unified Design Summer Internship Application is Now Open!
ABOUT OUR PROGRAM:
The 3North Unified Design Summer Internship is an intensive 10-week experience in our Richmond, Virginia, studio that has been developed for students of advanced standing who possess the design talent, work ethic, and creative passion that we value at 3North. The program provides practical experience in a professional multi-disciplinary design environment that will enable participating students to explore many areas of interest in the fields of architecture, interior design, landscape architecture, and Intangible Qualities. Beyond daily work experience, the students will be exposed to diverse subjects within the business of design and to projects of varying types in different stages of development.
This year we have four categories but will only be selecting three students to participate this summer.
- Architecture
Work closely with our architecture team to explore multiple phases of the design process on several hospitality, cultural, residential, and multi-family projects. Opportunities include gathering design precedent, preparing material palettes, building presentation decks, researching building code, assisting with construction documentation, construction administration and site visits. - Interior Design
Experience multiple phases of the design process by working closely with designers on several hospitality, cultural, residential, and multi-family projects. Opportunities include material selection, presentation development, construction documentation, and FF&E selection and specification. - Landscape Architecture
Explore multiple phases of the design process by working closely with our landscape architects and the broader project team on several multi-family, cultural, and residential projects. Opportunities include research, site analysis, presentation graphics, construction documentation, and material and planting selection and specification. - Intangible Qualities
Intangible Qualities (IQ) is 3North’s proprietary stakeholder engagement and visioning process. We use IQ on all projects to engage clients, designers, and stakeholders; ultimately establishing a narrative project vision and goals before beginning design in earnest. Our IQ intern will be engaged in many aspects of the IQ Process including research and analysis, graphic design, charrette creation, and writing. Applicants should have a special interest and experience in at least two of those areas.
