John Adam Hugo, AIA, ASLA, ASID, 3North founder and managing principal, provides overall leadership and management for the firm. A noted designer, Jay oversees important master planning and design assignments supported by his professional training as an architect, landscape architect, and interior designer. His buildings and landscapes have been featured in the regional and national press and have been recognized by numerous award programs. Often drawing on concepts from nature, his work focuses on signature placemaking, and in particular, what he calls “Threshold Spaces” – those dynamic places between structure and the broader landscape. Jay is also committed to innovative practice models and establishing stronger leadership roles for design professionals. As part of that, Jay has developed a particular expertise in program management, providing representation in all aspects of project delivery including high-level process management, development consulting, stakeholder engagement, and project advocacy.
Jay received a Bachelor of Science in Architecture from the University of Virginia and earned his Master of Architecture from the University of Pennsylvania.
