Luck Stone is the country’s largest family owned and operated producer of crushed stone, sand and gravel. The scale houses were designed to create clean, functional spaces that accurately reflect the company’s mission and brand. Following their newly refined core values, the scale houses became embodiments of Leadership, Integrity, Commitment and Creativity for the company’s brand and employees. Serving as the first point of contact most customers and clients encounter, the scale houses had to be both representative of the company and brand as a whole, as well as utilitarian for its purpose as the entryway to the stone yard. Its role as a scale to weigh incoming and outgoing truckloads, the materials selected for the building were chosen for their durability and ease of maintenance. With truckers and office workers being the primary users of the space, extra consideration was needed for comfort and efficiency. In order to create an environment of excellence, the design detailed above-standard accommodations for the building’s operators and features to interest those who visited. The company’s roots in organic and local materials was also considered, to reinforce the ethos of materiality throughout the space.
